talking to strangers

All parents experience those terrifying moments when a child says something honest and innocent to a stranger which usually results in an awkward situation. Today, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the responses you evoked from your statements.

The first was a woman and man in front of us. You looked at her and said, "Mom what does she have on her face?" I told you it was a lip piercing and she turned around and laughed and asked you if you liked it. You looked at her for a moment and shook your head and answered no. She laughed outloud with a few others riding the train so it ended up cute.

Then on the way home you starting singing a little song. I thought you were talking about my red hat, so I asked you about it and you answered that you were singing about the woman in front of us and her red and black hair. That caused some chuckles and she smiled at you. You then starting singing about how she didn't want to take out the red hair or the black hair and many more folks started laughing.

I'm just glad I didn't have to teach you any lessons about what should and should not be said aloud in public.

what a what

Eve gave you the nickname Benz a Wenz quite a while ago and you've now found an appropriate response in "what a what." Every time I hear it, I crack up. You had your first real experience with snow in the last week with about 3-4 feet of it covering the ground. While you enjoyed some of the things that come with having so much snow like being able to eat it, kick it, and throw it, the rest you could go without. We'll have to give sledding a try next year. At least you're a good sport most of the time. We're working on the big boy bed issue, but you can't seem to stay put, so you end up in the crib most of the time. It is pretty cute when you come tiptoeing down the stairs with an innocent look on your face (and usually naked) and you gladly walk back up the stairs to get back into bed.
